Frequently Asked Questions

Care should be shaped by your needs, not insurance requirements

We are a self-pay, out-of-network practice, so your care isn't dictated by insurance and your privacy is not compromised. If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you may be eligible for reimbursements up to 80%.

We partner with Thrizer to help you check your benefits before starting care. If the process feels confusing, please contact us!

Why Choose Self-Pay?

Choosing to invest in therapy is a deeply personal decision, and it's completely understandable to have questions about the financial commitment.  We believe that everyone deserves therapy that protects their privacy and is shaped by clinical expertise rather than insurance requirements. For us, remaining out-of-network isn't just a business decision—it's a commitment to providing care that is ethical, intentional, and centered on you.

Because your care should be guided by clinical judgment, not insurance policies.

Healing is not one-size-fits-all. Our therapists integrate evidence-based approaches that are tailored to each client's unique needs, identities, and experiences. Remaining out-of-network gives us the flexibility to provide individualized, high-quality care without being restricted by insurance reimbursement policies.

Your privacy matters.

Insurance companies often require therapists to submit diagnoses and detailed clinical information to authorize or reimburse treatment. By remaining out-of-network, we can better protect your confidentiality by limiting the amount of sensitive information shared while still providing superbills for clients seeking reimbursement.

Ethical & culturally responsive care is important.

For too long, mental health systems have disproportionately failed marginalized communities. BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and first-generation individuals have historically been misdiagnosed, overpathologized, underdiagnosed, or denied equitable access to care because systems were not designed with their lived experiences in mind.

Insurance often requires a diagnosis and ongoing documentation to justify treatment, reducing complex human experiences to what is reimbursable rather than what is clinically meaningful.

At Twin Roots, we believe your story deserves more than a diagnosis code. Your care should be guided by your identity, lived experience, and clinical needs—not by systems that have too often overlooked the communities we serve.
